Hi Joe. This is Chris from Melbourne, Australia - I used to follow your Twitter stream...

I just wanted to check out that you were going OK. Hope that you got a job and that things are a bit better with you. My Twitter feed certainly isn't as interesting as it was :)

I found your tumblr blog but didn't know how to comment. Um, maybe I'm not very clever with the technology! But then I remembered this one. Anyway, just wanted to say "Hi"

Cheers,
Chris

Not directly related, but noticed your Twitter microblog was no longer available. I sincerely hope you are safe and doing well. You write elegantly about interesting topics, so I'll keep reading here as long as you'll have me. Have a pleasant Easter!

You've got a great way with words!

Also, thanks for introducing me to some new music. I have not heard about the musicians you mentioned before so I looked some up on Youtube.

For John Cage, I ran across the BBC's broadcasting of the full orchestral performance of 4'33". (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUJagb7hL0E). It was very interesting to the silence and interruptions thereof. My workplace was quiet as well except for the hum of my work computer, so the sounds that did come through felt quite amplified. It was also interesting to see the body language of the orchestra members and audience members during the performance.

I also tried to search for Takemitsu but found no videos with vocals. Google Video recommended some good instrumental performances. I played percussion for a few years (focusing on mallet percussion) so it's also nice to see and hear music that lets those instruments shine. One video (http://www.wat.tv/video/takemitsu-sfo2_roig_.html) zoomed in on the vibraphone player sliding a violin (?) bow which I had never though about trying before...

Good music makes for a good start of the day. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! I'm praying for ya on the job front ... it's not Dallas-Fort Worth, but there must be a job around the corner for you nearby.

That's a very interesting list. I love it, it appeals to my taste enormosuly. It'll be an expensive funeral if they're to be performed live though!
